Magazine Databank

STICHWORT's Feminist Magazines
7,000 Copies and a Total Overview

Margit Hauser in: STICHWORT Newsletter 10/2000

STICHWORT completed a magazine databank in 2000 that now lists over 500 titles - including 70 subscriptions - and 7,000 copies of international publications that range from two-page information sheets to scientific periodicals (or: from the classic EMMA or Feminist Review to newer publications such as the Austrian nylon). The documentation begins with 1972, the date of the first Austrian publications reporting on the New Women's Movement, for example Frauen-Info, AUF and Rotstrumpf. For magazine documentation of the First Women's Movement, please refer to Ariadne's website: www.onb.ac.at/ariadne/02guide.htm. 130 Austrian feminist magazines are represented in the collection, 43 of which have enjoyed continuous publication since their initial issues. The rest reflect the history of the New Women's movement in Austria.

The new databank will facilitate the answers to a multitude of questions such as: Which kinds of magazines are available and where are they based? Do they have a website? The periodicals are classified according to the formal data of the publications such as how long they have existed, name of editor, language, country and region. Further research options comprise the general library resources and a databank for Austrian publications from 1972-1990. Rather than document past 1990 on their own,
STICHWORT is working towards on-line networks in collaboration with other German periodicals and databanks.
